The Eastern Rosella,
is one of the best known of all Australian parrots and is a
brilliantly coloured bird, with red, yellows, greens and blues.
They feed on seeds, nectar fruit and insects and
their larvae and are often seen in pairs or small groups on the
ground in search of grass seeds.
While most birds have three toes facing forward
and one back, parrots have two of their four toes facing back. This
allows them to grasp and handle objects with a dexterity unmatched
by any other bird. They even show left or right-handedness, but
their feet aren't great for walking; they have a comical, swaggering
walk.
