The dingo,
is a species of wild dog. The only such species found in
Australia and Australasia.
It is not known how or when the
dingo arrived in Australia. The dingo is found in the open
forests and on plains, where it hunts singly or in a pack. The dingo
preys upon kangaroos, sheep, and other small animals.
It is the size of a large dog with
soft fur, usually rusty red or fawn in colour, the toes and tip of
the tail being white. Four to eight pups are born in an underground
burrow or hollow tree. It does not bark but utters a series of yelps
and a plaintive howl.
